Among many web 2.0 artifacts that simply need to die is the whole “beta” tag. Still blows my mind when I see startups launch with this. Sure in 2005 it was cool to differentiate yourself from the old stodgy portals with flashy icons, giant fonts, etc… Today, things are different. Enough with the invite only pilots trying to generate artificial demand, just go big or go home. Why? No one has time to play, not you, not your customers, not anyone. They need real impressionable value from the first touchpoint. So stay in “stealth” mode, or take the extra time to get it right before you GTM, even if it means burning both ends of the candle. If you’re any good, users will stay rather than beta test your product and move on.
Oh, and this.
